Beach?

Somehow, someway both of the images above represent a "beach." Apparently in Maine, a beach is a combination of freezing cold water, rocks, barnacles, fog, seaweed and young mothers with tattoos.

This is slightly different from what I believe the word "beach" embodies.

You're fortunate to have found a beach in Maine with that much sand (you must have been in southern Maine). A lot of our beaches are just plain rocky (far more so than the one you pictured) and yes, you're right - they are COLD! You're definitely better off swimming in one of our many, many lakes. Maine is rugged, but also beautiful. If you ever have chance to come again, come in the fall when the leaves are changing, but be sure to check on the status of the leaves online first, the peak of the season varies with the area and only lasts about 2 weeks. If you'd like to truck some sand up to us we'll take it! Oh, and not all of us young Mom's have tattoos. =)
